A new study by Leonidas Gaitanakis and CoEFTL’s Stella Leivadi explores the rise of elite sports tourism at Costa Navarino, one of Greece’s most ambitious resort developments. This research highlights how the luxury resort in Messene is shaping the future of Greece’s tourism by focusing on high-end sports tourism, particularly in golf and quality leisure activities. The study examines the resort’s success in attracting the “elite” sport tourist, positioning itself as a premier destination for elite sports tourism while promoting active participation in a resort setting. This approach is redefining Greece’s tourism offerings beyond the traditional mass tourism model.
