Do consumers pay attention to expiration dates & best usage dates? Do they throw away expired food? Do they plan carefully to avoid food waste?

The Center of Excellence in Food, Tourism & Leisure delved into the attitudes and behaviors of Greek consumers on product dates and food waste.

Using Computer Assisted Web Interviewing and employing the online panel of Hellenic Research House – HRH this research project surveyed 525 participants, a representative sample of the population using the internet, between 19  and 27 October, 2022.

The findings indicate that although Greek consumers have some awareness on the importance of dates, their everyday practices do not consider the challenges of food waste which they do not perceive as a challenging issue.

There is a need for more consumer research and training on the importance of food waste and of responsible food consumption.
